WHAT IS DROP AND HOW CAN IT INFLUENCE YOUR RUNNING FORM?
WHAT IS DROP....
The drop in running shoes is the difference in height between the heel and the front part (metatarsals) of the sole. This value is measured in millimeters (mm) and is an indicator of the foot's inclination within the shoe. Drop influences how the foot hits the ground when walking or running, so it's important to consider it when choosing shoes based on our preferences or running style.
Drop can influence running form: A high drop (greater difference between heel and toe) favors a heel strike, while a low or zero drop promotes a midfoot or forefoot strike.
A high drop can provide more cushioning in the heel, reducing the impact in this area, which can be beneficial for people who tend to heel strike while running.
In contrast, a low drop can help improve technique, as it encourages a more natural posture and greater foot control.
An inappropriate drop can cause discomfort or injury, especially if there is a sudden transition between very different drops, as it can affect the biomechanics of the stride.
The different Drops:
High drop (10-12 mm): Increasingly rare, it offers greater cushioning in the heel. It is recommended for runners who tend to land on their heel.
Medium drop (6-8 mm): Ideal for runners who combine heel and midfoot strike, as it offers a balance between cushioning and a natural stride.
Low drop (4-6 mm): Promotes a running technique closer to the forefoot or midfoot.
0-4 mm drop: For a more natural stride, it promotes midfoot contact with the ground and a late heel strike, placing the foot closer to the ground for greater stability and less impact.
Zero drop (0 mm): Shoes that mimic barefoot running (minimalist) with a natural stride, with the foot landing on the forefoot. They do not offer additional cushioning in the heel. Not suitable without prior training.

IN SUMMARY
Drop is a key factor when choosing running shoes, taking into account running technique, personal preferences, and goals. A steeper drop can provide more comfort for certain running styles, while a lower drop promotes more natural biomechanics.
